Bonner Gospel Mission May, 2019 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Luke 24:45-48 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures...

Jesus just spent 3 years teaching, mentoring, and being the example of compassion, mercy, and grace with His closest friends, His disciples. He performed miracles that amazed them over and over again. He even gave3 them the power to do miracles. He washed their feet as an example of serving in humility (including Judas, knowing he was about to betray Him). Jesus loved those men. The disciples seemed to be honored to be chosen and taught by him. They even argued about who was the greatest. Even thought they knew Him they just didn't get it. When Jesus needed them the most, to watch and pray they fell asleep. He was betrayed by Judas with a kiss, then the rest of them left Him and fled. Peter even said at one point, along with all the others..., "Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee." Likewise also said all the disciples. Matthew 26:35 KJV, then he denied knowing Him 3 times.

Through all of this Jesus willingly paid the penalty for our sin. After Christ died and rose again He started revealing Himself to His disciples. To two men on the road to Emmaus, then when His followers were hiding in fear with the doors locked, Jesus stood among them. Some of the disciples thought it was over and went back to fishing. There were many other times Jesus revealed Himself to prove that He is raised from the dead.

What a gift this verse is, "He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures!"  To "get it," is such a wonderful revelation.

With opened minds they were fully prepared to go out and do the work they were chosen to do. Why didn't He open their minds to begin with? God allowed the disciples, as well as us, to learn from various types of life circumstances to get us to the point that we need to surrender ourselves to Him

Dear Lord, please give us the gift of "an open mind to understand the Scriptures" so we can serve you better.

God Bless,
Steve Schubarth
